HS207 Scholastic / other Writing Competition (Private Tutoring /Editing)

All instructors are either teachers of Diyi Education or have received acceptance to top schools like Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, MIT, UPenn, etc. Tutors who mentor writing competition students also have thorough experience with creative writing as National Scholastic Medalists, YoungArts Winners / Finalists, mentees of prestigious summer programs, authors of books, and more. 

Service Description (7 hours):
Editing for Scholastic, college/ high school applications, or publications; offering both asynchronous and online sessions.  Designed for students with intermediate to advanced knowledge in creative writing or students interested in submitting to the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards and other writing competitions or publications.  She will focus on memoir, fiction, and poetry, taking students through winning pieces and teaching them writing techniques.

BIOs of some tutors
Joanna Liu: Joanna is a freshman at Harvard studying English and Economics. She is a 4x Scholastic National Medalist, National YoungArts Winner in Writing, and the 1st Place Winner of the 2023 Bennington Young Writers Awards in Creative Nonfiction. Joanna is an alum of the Adroit Summer Mentorship Program, Iowa Young Writers Studio, Kenyon Review Young Writers Workshop, and Stanford Summer Humanities Institute. She has extensive experience editing college & high school applications, helping students gain acceptance to Ivy League Schools, Stanford, MIT, Vanderbilt, UCs, and elite high schools like Philips Andover, Nobles, St. Paul, Groton, Concord Academy, BBN, Belmont Hill, and more. She is also the recipient of the 2024 Scholastic Educator Award for her mentorship in writing. 

Sophia Zhang: Sophia Zhang is an undergraduate at Harvard University studying History and Literature. She is 2x National YoungArts winner and 4x National Scholastic Arts and Writing medalist. Sophia’s work has also been recognized by The Pulitzer Foundation, Columbia College Chicago, Narrative Magazine, and more. She is an alumni of the Adroit Summer Mentorship Program, Kenyon Young Writers Workshop, and Medill-Northwestern Journalism Program.

Mingwei Yeoh: Mingwei Yeoh is a freshman at Harvard University and a writer from Minnesota. She is a 2024 U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts, a 2024 YoungArts Winner with Distinction for Short Story, a national Scholastic medalist, and an alumna of the Iowa Young Writers’ Studio.  Her work has been featured in Gone Lawn, Bending Genres, Bright Flash Lit, and more. 
Fiona Lu: Fiona Lu is a sophomore at MIT and a 2x Scholastic Medalist in Science Fiction & Fantasy. She is the author of How to Become the God of Small Things, which won the 2023 Rachel Wetzsteon Chapbook Award. Her writing has been recognized by the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, Princeton University, and elsewhere.

Sunny Vo is a student at Harvard College, concentrating in Social Studies and Economics. A Choate Rosemary Hall graduate with cum laude distinction, she participated in the selective JFK Program in Government and Public Service. In high school, Sunny engaged in social advocacy, researching labor economics and workers’ rights, and interning with a Georgia State Assembly member. Her academic achievements earned her admission to Harvard, Stanford, Princeton, Columbia, Cornell, Amherst, the London School of Economics (PPE), Northwestern, and more.
