This course will introduce students to novels from a variety of genres. Specifically, this course will cover fantasy, science fiction, magical realism, and narrative. This varied reading list will not only challenge and engage students, but also offer opportunities to discuss character types, conflicts, and more. The course will emphasize reading comprehension (particularly through these in-class discussions), grammar (mainly through workbook assignments), and creative and academic writing via in-class writing assignments (the first half of the course will focus on various creative writing styles while the latter half of the course will focus entirely on academic writing). Students will begin reading their first novel before the first class!
