Class Outline and Expectations
In this course, students will be introduced to literature from various genres: a classic psychological/historical fiction, bildungsroman, domestic fiction, social commentary novella, and socio-political fiction. Additionally, students will develop writing skills for various styles: creative writing for competition, personal essays for applications, and academic writing for standardized tests (especially the AP English tests). Each week, students will be provided with materials (generally in a PowerPoint) posted to the Slides and Resources folder to guide them in completing their homework. Students also have access to a library of video lectures intended to supplement students’ learning. Further, office hours will be available by appointment. Students will write 1 full piece (short story, essay, etc.) every two weeks but will have other supporting assignments (plans). Writing assignments are due 24 hours before class!
